【摘要】:Theresistanceofcorrugatedfiberboardshippingcontainerstodamagebymoistureisimprovedbywaxtreatment,andacommonpracticeinvolvesalightwaxsaturationappliedtothemediumandfacings,followedbyacurtaincoatingorrollcoatingoperationapplyingwaxtothesurface.Thefunctionalperformanceoftheboardisdependentupontheamountofwaxdepositedineachoperation.5.1.1Forthewaximpregnationwithinthefacing,theprincipalconcerniswiththeweightofwaxusedrelativetotheweightofpaperboardpresent,thatis,theweightpercentloadingorpickup.Thismethodmeasuresthatloadingandassumesthattheloadingisdistributeduniformlythroughoutthefacing.However,themethoddoesnotprovideameasureoftheweightofimpregnatingwaxperunitarea,sincenotallofthefacingfibersareutilizedinthetesting.5.1.2Forthewaxcoatingtheprincipalconcernisintheweightofwaxpresentonthesurfaceperunitarea.Thismethodmeasurestheamountofmaterialapplied,andassumesthatthemajorportionofmoltencoatingappliedwillcongealandremainonthesurface,withoutunduemigrationintothefibrousstructureofthemedium.Note28212;Inatypicalcurtaincoatingapplication,aportionofthecoatingwillpartiallymigrateintoandbecomeembeddedinthefibersofthefacingtotheextentofabout10%ofthecoatingapplied.5.1.3Theseproceduresinvolveextractionsofdesignatedsectionsofthepaperboardanddeterminationoftheextractablematerialreportedaswax.Thisassumesthatthenonwaxextractablesinthepaperboardsubstrateareinnegligibleamount(forexample,about0.2weight%).Note38212;Iftheapplicationofacorrectionfornonwaxextractablesisdesired,asuitableunwaxedboardspecimenmaybeextractedandappropriatecalculationsmade.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheweightofwaxthathasbeenappliedforcoatingofcorrugatedboard,andtheamountofimpregnating(saturating)waxinthesamefacing.1.2Thistestmethodisespeciallyapplicabletoboardthathasacoatedsurfaceandalsocontainswaxsaturationwithinthefacingstructure.Note1-Theamountofsurfacewaxonboardthatmayormaynotcontainimpregnating(saturating)waxwithinitsstructuremaybedeterminedalternativelybyTestMethodD3521.Ifitisknownthatthespecimenhascoatingwaxonly,withnointernalimpregnatingwax,thetotalcoatingwaxappliedmaybedeterminedbyTestMethodD3344.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecifichazardstatements,see7.1.
